What is Marijuana?

Dried greenish-brown drug obtained from the leaves or flowers of the Cannabis sativa plant. It makes the user feel euphoric.

That is the actual definition of Marijuana. Marijuana's active chemical is Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC.
THC is the following chemical compund: C21 H30 O2.

This compound is what gives the user the high.

Marijuana derives from the Cannabis Sativa plant. Cannabis sativa is an annual plant in the Cannabaceae family. It is a herb that has been used throughout recorded history by humans as a source of fiber, for its seed oil, as food, as a drug , as medicine, and for spiritual purposes. Each part of the plant is harvested differently, depending on the purpose of its use.

Its seed, chiefly used as caged-bird feed, is a valuable source of protein. The flowers (and to a lesser extent the leaves, stems, and seeds) contain psychoactive and physiologically active chemical compounds known as cannabinoids that are consumed for recreational, medicinal, and spiritual purposes. When so used, preparations of flowers and leaves and preparations derived from resinous extract (hashish) are consumed by smoking, vaporizing and oral ingestion. Historically, tinctures, teas, and ointments have also been common preparations.

The flowers of the female plant are arranged in racemes and can produce hundreds of seeds. Male plants shed their pollen and die several weeks prior to seed ripening on the female plants. Although genetic factors dispose a plant to become male or female, environmental factors including the diurnal light cycle can alter sexual expression. Naturally occurring monoecious plants, with both male and female parts, are either sterile or fertile but artificially induced "hermaphrodites" (a commonly used misnomer) can have fully functional reproductive organs. "Feminized" seed sold by many commercial seed suppliers are derived from artificially "hermaphrodytic" females that lack the male gene, or by treating the seeds with hormones or silver thiosulfate.

    2. I think marijuana could be legalized because people already do it and that won't stop them. Marijuana actually helps people concentrate in some cases.

    3. I think there are negatives and positives if marijuana was legalized. It would cause problems with people using it too much at unnecessary times. But then again, marijuana has a lot of benefits. People also already use marijuana even though it's illegal.

    4. I think it would be a good idea for marijuana to be legalized. One reason for this is because it would take a lot of people out of jail for possession, which would create more room inside jails. Many jails are running out of room and this would help a lot.

    5. Right or wrong, Travis makes a good point. How much government money is spent on prisons that could be better spent in a proactive way?

    6. Marijuana should be legalized there are so many other ways that our government could spend our money instead of prisoners being in jail because they sold marijuana or have done it. There are more serious crimes going on that get over looked because of smaller issues. If marijuana was legal i believe less crimes would happen.
